In 1997 my aunt went to Tokyo and bought my 10th birthday present there: a purple shelled Tamagotchi! It was right at the beginning of the trend and I didn’t really know what it was, but I quickly became obsessed with my little digi-pet! It went everywhere with me in my pocket. When I was in class I put him on silent and fed him quickly between lessons. It was always thrilling when it evolved!
One Saturday I was with a friend when he pushed me into the swimming pool. I was only mad because my Tamagotchi was in my pocket!!! My dad helped me open it and dry it out, but the poor thing was beyond help. I searched for years and years after and could never find a proper Tamagotchi in the torrent of other virtual pets in the saturated market of the time. It’s been 15 years and I have been scouring the stores of both Apple and Android for a good long while now. It was my birthday last week and I have finally come full circle - the Tamagotchi is back in my pocket, looking better than ever!
